A fire engine for the firefighters of the Nosivka community

We handed over a Scania P93 4×2 fire engine to the Nosivka Volunteer Fire Service in the Chernihiv region. The vehicle has a 3,400-litre water tank, a 208 kW diesel engine (around 283 hp) and an automatic transmission. It will replace an old ZIL fire truck that the firefighters have been using for emergency calls.

The volunteer fire service in Ukraine is still developing, and it is doing so during a very difficult time. We do not have the same long history and strong volunteer firefighting culture as many European countries. But we already have good examples of communities where volunteers have built strong teams and work every day to protect their communities.

One of these examples is the Nosivka Volunteer Fire Service, which has responded to more than 20 emergencies in just the last few months.

There are still many challenges. We need to replace old fire trucks from the 1980s with newer vehicles, continue training volunteers, involve more young people, find funding and build a stronger volunteer firefighting culture in Ukraine.
This movement is growing slowly, but it is growing. And we are happy to support it whenever we can.

This fire engine became possible thanks to our friends and colleagues from Södertörns brandförsvarsförbund, the personal efforts of Pierre Sannemo and Andreas Greman, the work of the Ukrainian Firefighters Foundation team and, as always, the important support of Nova Ukraine.

We hope this fire engine will serve the community for many years and help its firefighters save lives!
